FAQ

Most frequent questions and answers

The cost of plastering in the UK can vary significantly depending on a number of factors, including the size of the area to be plastered, the condition of the surface to be plastered, and the complexity of the job. If you want a quote on your plastering job, give us a call today to schedule a visit!

A small room (such as a bathroom) can typically be plastered in a day, while a larger room (such as a living room) may take several days to plaster. It is important to keep in mind that plastering is a labor-intensive process, and the plasterer will need to take breaks to rest and properly mix the plaster. It is always a good idea to discuss the scope of the project and get a timeline from the plasterer before the work begins.

After plastering, it is important to allow the plaster sufficient time to dry and cure before painting. The amount of time this will take will depend on the thickness of the plaster and the humidity and temperature of the room. In general, you should allow at least 24 hours for the plaster to dry before painting. However, in some cases, it may take up to several days or even a week for the plaster to fully dry and cure. It is always a good idea to consult with the plasterer or follow the manufacturer’s recommendations for drying times before painting.

Plastering is typically used to create a smooth, even surface on a wall or ceiling, or to repair damage to an existing plaster surface. Plastering requires more time and skill than skimming, as the plaster needs to be properly mixed and applied in a thick layer.

Skimming, on the other hand, involves the application of a very thin layer of plaster to a surface, typically over existing plaster or drywall. Skimming is often used to smooth out minor imperfections or to create a seamless transition between different types of surfaces, such as plaster and drywall. Skimming requires less time and skill than plastering, as the plaster is applied in a thin layer and does not need to be mixed.

In general, skimming is a faster and less expensive option than plastering, but it may not be suitable for repairing more significant damage or creating a completely smooth, even surface.

First, we make sure to clean up any plaster dust or debris that may have accumulated during the course of the job. This is done using a vacuum cleaner, dustpan and brush, or damp cloth. In addition, we also cover any furniture or flooring with protective sheeting to prevent plaster dust from settling on these surfaces.

Next, we inspect the work area to make sure that everything is in its proper place and that the plastering work has been completed to your satisfaction. Any tools or equipment that were used during the job are properly stored or returned to their designated location.

Finally, we do a final sweep of the work area to ensure that it is clean and tidy. This may include wiping down surfaces, sweeping or mopping the floor, and taking care of any other tasks that are necessary to leave the area clean and presentable.
